Aloha!
In 1974, my parents, who worked for the Marcos regime and liaised for the church, gave me the task of arranging the venue for a performing group from BYU-Hawaii. I was then a freshman at the University of the Philippines and luckily, able to arrange for them to use the university's theatre for a night---and oh, what a night it was! To see a group of wholesome, happy young people who seemed so carefree, confident and talented was a huge inspiration to me. Within a few months, I would find myself in Laie, Hawaii and knocking at Randy Boothe's door, eager to audition to be part of this unbelievable group. I remember drumming up all the courage my spirit would allow me, to even ask. Luckily, I had my trump card with me: my beloved Yamaha G-60 classic guitar.
Steve Boothe was assigned the task of "checking out" my guitar-playing abilities. In due time, I was teaching him a few of my tricky guitar licks. Aloooooooooooha!
It's been over 30 years since then and I no longer play the guitar with the same boldness and dexterity---but hey---I can bake bread and do wonders with a hot glue gun. Well....ok, I've given those up a good two decades ago as well. I am just not cut out for that sort of thing. But ask me to get nostalgic and I go for the gusto! Every single Showcase Hawaii member has touched my life in incredible ways. For these gifts, I am profoundly grateful. More than anything, being a part of Showcase Hawaii gave me the clarity of vision I needed to believe in happy everafterings. Eternal families. Eternal ties. Eternal companion. I believed in the vision. I am now living that vision. Happily. Joyously.
In putting up this site, my hope is that members can have a place to "talk stories" and "hang-out" albeit virtually. I invite all to participate, reminisce and renew friendships. Life's just too short. And well, it's just time.
